Training

Improving the relationship between you and your dog, one lesson at a time.

Our Training Philosophy

Our philosophy is simple: address the whole dog and gain control through kindness, kindness, and more kindness.

Doggy Day School

Get ready for real, positive change in your dog's behavior.

  • Brand-new agility center
  • 3,500 sq ft training room
  • Indoor/outdoor play area

Doggy Day School is a daily dog training program designed to provide maximum amount of learning while allowing your dog to spend evenings and weekends at home. Problematic and dangerous behaviors (like house-soiling, excessive barking, and bolting out a door) are easily addressed by the patient and loving Green Leaf Pet Resort staff.

Training time varies by dog, and we’re happy to discuss timeline with you before getting started.

What your dog can expect:

Drop-off and pick-up times tailored to your schedule

Routine walks and workouts sessions throughout the day

Private lessons with the whole family after your dog’s graduates.

We focus on positive reinforcement, praise, and, of course, the occasional treat. Your dog will be walked and worked throughout the day and build a wonderful, trusting rapport with their trainer. To make obedience productive and fun, we train on a work-rest cycle: each 15 minute training interval is followed by a break. Your dog will be walked and worked throughout the day all while building a wonderful, trusting rapport with their trainer.

When the dog has graduated, the family is brought in on a private lesson basis. The family will learn how to work and communicate with their dog and how to maintain positive behaviors in the home.

Boarding School

While you’re away, your dog will train (and play!).

  • Highly personalized 24/7 care for 3-4 weeks
  • Work-rest training cycles to keep training fun and productive
  • Private lessons with the whole family after your dog graduates

The Boarding School program, like all of our dog training programs, is individually tailored to your dog. They’ll receive highly personalized care 24/7, with everything from food, to walks, and training carefully scheduled and monitored. The difference in this intensive curriculum, however, is that your dog will live at Green Leaf’s training facility in New Jersey for 3-4 weeks.

This provides all training staff with the time necessary to address even the most complex of behavioral issues, to ensure the process is both fun and productive for your dog.

What your dog can expect:

To keep training productive and fun, dogs are trained on a work-rest cycle: each 15 minute training interval is followed by a break. Affectionate interaction and play are the key to effective training, and a large part of positive reinforcement comes from the bond between trainer and dog. There are frequent reviews are given throughout the process to continue to further help tailor the program to your dog.

When the dog has graduated, the family is brought in on a private lesson basis . The family to will learn how to work and communicate with their dog and how to maintain positive behaviors in the home. The lessons continue until everyone in is comfortable handling the dog.

Puppy Training

Puppies, like human youngsters, are little “sponges” when it comes to learning.

  • Individually tailored training programs for your pup
  • A focus on preventing future behavioral issues while addressing typical puppy “problems” (like chewing while teething)

Like adult dogs, every puppy is a unique individual, so training must be tailored accordingly. Once your puppy is evaluated, a specialized program will be designed. As Green Leaf’s training programs are all based on positive reinforcement, your puppy will think they’re playing (not working), making it a fun way for them to interact with both trainers and you.

After completing their training program, your puppy will have excellent house and social manners, and grow into a wonderful companion that’s a pleasure to have around!

What your dog can expect:

Puppies will learn how to communicate with and please their owners, as well as have excellent house and social manners. At the same time, typical puppy “problems” (like chewing while teething) are will be addressed to instill good habits and behaviors that prevent future issues.

Once your puppy has been evaluated, a specialized puppy-training program will be designed. To avoid the risk of puppies picking up development poor habits, it’s important best to enroll your pup in training as soon as possible (8 weeks old is the ideal time to get started).
